Wiring & getting started

  1. Pick the size

Red for 0.5-1.5 mm² wire, blue for 1.5-2.5 mm² wire. Then pick the ring that matches your stud: M4 or M5.

  2. Strip and insert

With the power off, strip enough insulation for the conductor to reach the end of the metal barrel. Twist the strands and push the wire in fully.

  3. Crimp and pull test

Crimp in the jaw that matches the sleeve colour until the ratchet releases. Pull the wire firmly; it should not move.

  4. Fit the ring

Place the ring flat over the stud or screw, tighten the nut or screw and check clearance before restoring power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Which colour do I need?
Choose by wire size. Red fits 0.5-1.5 mm² (22-16 AWG) wire and blue fits 1.5-2.5 mm² (16-14 AWG). Wire right at 1.5 mm² fits either, so pick the one the stripped conductor fills snugly.
Which ring size fits my stud?
The M4 ring suits M4 screws and studs, and the M5 ring suits M5. Use the ring that matches your stud so it sits flat under the nut or screw head without moving around.
How many do I get?
Each quantity is one terminal. The minimum is 5 of a size, and you can mix sizes in one order. The bulk discount applies to each size at 10, 25, 50 and 100 pieces.
How much current can they carry?
The blue terminals are rated at 27 A maximum. In practice the wire size, the crimp and the temperature set the safe current, so size the wire and fuse for your load.
What tool do I need?
A ratcheting crimper for insulated terminals. Use the red jaw for red terminals and the blue jaw for blue. Pliers often leave the wire loose in the barrel.
Are they waterproof?
No. The insulating sleeve is not sealed. In wet places, cover the crimp with adhesive-lined heat shrink after fitting.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
