A JYF-50S inline fan that sits in a run of 50mm (2 inch) pipe or hose and pulls air through it at up to 36 m³/h, about 21 CFM. That is the right size for venting a 3D printer enclosure, an electronics cabinet, a battery box or a composting toilet, and too small for a grow tent or bathroom. It runs from 12V DC at 6W, so a 12V plug pack or a 12V battery powers it. No power supply comes with it: the short lead ends in a female DC barrel socket, ready for a 12V supply with a barrel plug.

Wiring & getting started

  1. Pick a 12V supply

Use a 12V DC plug pack rated 1 A or more with a barrel plug that fits the fan's socket, or a 12V battery. To wire it to a battery or screw terminals, our barrel jack screw terminal adapter comes in both common barrel sizes, 5.5x2.1mm and 5.5x2.5mm. A solar panel on its own runs at around 18 to 22V, so connect the fan to the battery or the controller's 12V load output, not straight to the panel.

  2. Point the arrow the way the air should go

The arrow on the label shows the airflow, and the fan only blows that way. To pull air out of a box, the arrow points away from the box. Join it to your 50mm hose or pipe with a hose clamp, a rubber coupling or tape, so air cannot leak around the joint.

  3. Power up and set the speed

At 12V it runs at full speed with a noticeable high-pitched whine. If you need it quieter, run it from a lower voltage, for example from an adjustable step-down converter: it slows down and gets much quieter, while still moving air through the pipe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Will it fit my pipe or hose?
It is made for 50mm (2 inch) pipe work. Join it to your hose or pipe with a hose clamp, a rubber coupling or tape so air cannot leak around the joint.
What power supply do I need?
A 12V DC supply rated 1 A or more; the fan draws about 0.5 A. Use a plug pack with a barrel plug that fits the fan's DC socket, or a 12V battery wired through a barrel jack screw terminal adapter. No power supply is included.
How much air does it move?
Up to 36 m³/h, about 21 CFM or 600 litres a minute, with no pipe attached. A long or bendy hose cuts that a lot. It suits small spaces such as a printer enclosure, a cabinet, a battery box or a composting toilet vent.
Which way does the air blow?
In the direction of the arrow on the label. It only blows one way, so fit it with the arrow pointing where you want the air to go.
Can I make it quieter?
Yes. At 12V it spins at 14,700 rpm and has a high-pitched whine. Running it from a lower voltage, for example through an adjustable step-down converter, slows it down and makes it much quieter.
Can I run it from solar?
Yes, from a 12V battery or the 12V load output of a solar charge controller. Do not connect it straight to a panel, which can put out 18 to 22V.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
