Every sealed box eventually needs a cable going into it, and this is the fitting that lets one through without letting the weather back in. Drill a 20mm hole, push the gland through, do the lock nut up on the inside, then run your cable and tighten the dome nut. That squeezes a rubber insert down onto the cable so it seals and grips at the same time, which means the joint inside the box never takes the strain if someone pulls on the lead. It suits round cable from 6mm up to 12mm across, so it covers most flex, low voltage runs and sensor leads. Black nylon, lock nut and panel gasket in the pack, sold as singles so you buy exactly what the enclosure needs.

  • M20 x 1.5 thread, drops into a 20mm panel hole
  • Suits round cable 6mm to 12mm outside diameter
  • Rated IP68 once it is fitted and tightened properly
  • Lock nut and panel gasket included
  • Clamps the cable, so it doubles as strain relief
  • Nylon body, moulded CE and M20X1.5 markings
  • Rated -40C to +100C
  • 27mm across the flats, spanner or hand tight

How to fit it

  1. Drill a 20mm hole

A step drill or 20mm hole saw in the enclosure wall. Deburr it so the gasket sits flat.

  2. Mount the gland

Slide the gasket onto the thread, push it through from the outside, then run the lock nut on from the inside and tighten.

  3. Run the cable

Back the dome nut off, feed the cable through, and leave a little slack inside the box.

  4. Seal it up

Tighten the dome nut with a 27mm spanner until the insert closes onto the cable, then give the cable a tug to check it is held.

Good to know: the IP68 rating depends on the install - the cable needs to sit inside the 6-12mm range, the gasket needs a clean flat face to seal against, and the dome nut needs to be properly tightened. This is a mechanical cable entry rather than an electrical connector, so it carries no current or voltage rating of its own, and any mains work still needs to follow NZ wiring rules and be done or checked by a registered electrician. Every order is checked before it ships from our Te Awamutu stock.

Got questions?

Frequently asked questions

What size hole does it need?
A 20mm clearance hole. The M20 x 1.5 thread passes through the panel and the supplied lock nut does it up from the inside, so you don't need to tap anything.
What cable will it fit?
Round cable from 6mm to 12mm outside diameter. Anything thinner than 6mm won't be gripped properly by the rubber insert and the seal won't hold, so pick a smaller gland for thin cable.
Is it actually waterproof?
It is rated IP68 when it is fitted properly: the panel gasket seated against a clean flat face, the lock nut done up, the cable inside the 6-12mm range, and the dome nut tightened down onto the insert. Fitted loosely or on an uneven surface it will leak like any other gland.
Does it come with the lock nut and gasket?
Yes. Each gland ships assembled as four parts: the main body, the rubber sealing insert and dome nut, the panel gasket, and the lock nut.
What is it made of?
Nylon body and nuts with a rubber sealing insert and gasket, in black. Rated for -40C to +100C, and the body carries moulded CE and M20X1.5 markings.
Do I need tools to fit it?
Only for the final nip up. The dome nut is 27mm across the flats, so a 27mm spanner or adjustable will do it. Hand tight plus a bit is usually enough on soft flex.
Can I use it on mains wiring?
It is a mechanical cable entry, not an electrical connector, so it doesn't carry a current or voltage rating. Any mains work still needs to follow NZ wiring rules and be done or checked by a registered electrician.
