The MTS-102 is a blue mini toggle switch with SPDT ON-ON action: two latching positions and no off position. The centre solder lug is common and connects to one outer lug in each lever position, so it suits selecting between two circuits in a small panel. Need a centre-off position? Choose the MTS-103 ON-OFF-ON. Reversing a motor? Use the MTS-202 DPDT.

Wiring & getting started

  1. Work with the power off

    Do the continuity check, mounting and soldering with the circuit disconnected.

  2. Map the two positions

    Set a multimeter to continuity, hold one probe on the centre lug and touch each outer lug in turn. Each lever position closes the centre to one outer lug.

  3. Mount it

    Drill a 6mm hole, pass the bushing through with the washers fitted and tighten the hex nut without crushing the panel.

  4. Solder and insulate

    Solder the common wire to the centre lug and the two switched wires to the outer lugs, then cover the joints with heat shrink. Our toggle switch wiring guide shows SPST, SPDT and DPDT layouts.

Note: The switch is marked 6A 125VAC. Do not infer another voltage rating from this marking. Mains AC work in New Zealand must be done or certified by a licensed electrician.

Does the MTS-102 have a centre-off position?
No. It is an ON-ON switch with two latching positions. The centre lug is common and connects to one outer lug in each position. For a centre-off switch, choose the MTS-103 ON-OFF-ON.
Which lug is common?
The centre lug. Each lever position connects it to one outer lug. Check which outer lug closes in each position with a multimeter on continuity before you solder.
What is it rated for?
The switch is marked 6A 125VAC, and that is the rating we go by. Any mains AC wiring in New Zealand must be done or certified by a licensed electrician.
What size hole does it need?
A 6mm round hole. The threaded bushing passes through the panel and the supplied hex nut, with its star lock washer and tab washer, holds it in place.
Can one MTS-102 reverse a two-wire DC motor?
No. A single SPDT switch cannot swap both motor wires. Use a DPDT switch such as the MTS-202, wired as a reversing switch, or a motor driver.
Can I use it in a low-voltage project?
Yes. It is commonly used to choose between two inputs, modes or signal paths on Arduino, ESP32 and 12V hobby projects. The marked rating is 6A 125VAC.
