This compact slot-type photoelectric interrupter module detects an opaque vane, wheel or tab passing through its optical fork and provides a digital signal for your controller. Use it for pulse counting, wheel speed, revolution sensing and repeatable position detection in Arduino, ESP32 and similar projects.

One assembled blue PCB with fitted optical fork and three-pin male header. Encoder disc, cable and mounting hardware are not included.

Wiring & getting started
- Connect power
With power off, connect VCC to a regulated 3.3V or 5V rail and connect GND to the controller ground.
- Connect the signal
Connect OUT to a digital input. Use an interrupt-capable pin when you need reliable pulse counting at speed.
- Check both states
Power the module, read OUT with the slot clear, then pass an opaque vane fully through the gap and confirm the state changes.
- Calculate motion
Count signal edges over time and divide by the number of slots or vanes per revolution to calculate speed or distance.
Note: This module family appears in more than one circuit revision, so idle output polarity can vary. Check both clear-slot and blocked-slot states in your finished circuit rather than assuming HIGH or LOW at rest.
