Wiring & getting started

  1. Connect power

    With power off, connect VCC to a regulated 3.3V or 5V rail and connect GND to the controller ground.

  2. Connect the signal

    Connect OUT to a digital input. Use an interrupt-capable pin when you need reliable pulse counting at speed.

  3. Check both states

    Power the module, read OUT with the slot clear, then pass an opaque vane fully through the gap and confirm the state changes.

  4. Calculate motion

    Count signal edges over time and divide by the number of slots or vanes per revolution to calculate speed or distance.

Note: This module family appears in more than one circuit revision, so idle output polarity can vary. Check both clear-slot and blocked-slot states in your finished circuit rather than assuming HIGH or LOW at rest.

Can I use this module with Arduino or ESP32?
Yes. Use a regulated supply that matches your controller logic, connect the grounds together and connect OUT to a digital input. For ESP32, power the module from 3.3V so the output stays within the ESP32 input range.
What does the sensor detect?
It detects an opaque vane, tab or slotted encoder disc passing through the optical gap. It is a transmissive interrupter, not a reflective distance sensor.
Can it measure motor or wheel speed?
Yes. Count the output transitions over a known time and divide by the number of slots or vanes per revolution.
Is an encoder disc included?
No. The listing includes one assembled sensor module only. Encoder discs, cables and mounting hardware are not included.
Is the output HIGH or LOW when the slot is blocked?
Board revisions can use different output polarity. Read OUT once with the slot clear and once blocked, then use those observed states in your code.
