The classic 6×6mm tactile push button — the little momentary switch you'll find in almost every electronics project. Two through-hole pins drop straight into a breadboard or PCB, and a crisp click gives clear tactile feedback every press. Choose the 5mm low-profile body for on-board buttons, or the taller 10mm actuator when the button needs to reach through a panel or enclosure lid. Sold loose by the piece, so you buy exactly how many you need.

  • Momentary action — on while pressed, off when released
  • 2-pin through-hole, fits breadboards and 0.1" PCBs
  • Crisp tactile click with positive feedback
  • Rated 50mA @ 12V DC, ideal for logic & signal inputs
  • Rated for 100,000+ presses
  • Two heights: 5mm on-board or 10mm panel-reach

Great for

Reset and mode buttons on Arduino / ESP32 projects
Breadboard prototyping and learning kits
Keypads, game controllers and simple menus
Wake / boot buttons on microcontroller boards
Panel-mounted buttons (10mm) behind enclosure lids
Repairs and replacements on existing PCBs

Wiring tips

  • The two pins are the switch contacts — orientation doesn't matter
  • For a clean logic input, wire one side to your GPIO with a pull-up/pull-down resistor (or use the MCU's internal pull-up)
  • Add a 0.1µF cap or software debounce to remove contact bounce
  • Keep within 50mA / 12V — switch logic signals, not motors or loads

Common questions

What's the difference between the 5mm and 10mm?

It's the overall height of the switch. The 5mm is low-profile for buttons that sit on the board. The 10mm has a taller actuator, so the button can reach up through a panel or enclosure lid. The footprint and electrical specs are identical.

Is it momentary or latching?

Momentary. The circuit is closed only while you hold the button down and opens the moment you release — like a keyboard key or a reset button. It does not stay latched.

Will it fit a breadboard?

Yes. The 2-pin spacing straddles the centre channel of a standard breadboard, and the pins also suit 0.1" (2.54mm) prototyping board and most PCB footprints for 6×6 tact switches.

Can I switch mains or a motor with it?

No. These are rated for low-voltage signal use (50mA at 12V DC max). Use them for logic inputs and control signals — drive larger loads through a transistor, MOSFET or relay.

Why is there a minimum order?

These are very low-cost parts, so we sell them in a minimum of 10 to keep packing and postage worthwhile — and the more you buy, the cheaper each one gets.

Good to know: add a small debounce (hardware cap or software delay) for reliable single-press detection. Stocked and dispatched from our Te Awamutu workshop — overseas prices, without the overseas wait.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
