Wiring & getting started

  1. Identify polarity

    The longer lead is normally the anode (+). The shorter lead and the flat side of the body identify the cathode (-).

  2. Add a resistor

    Use a current-limiting resistor in series. A conservative starting point is 100 ohm at 3.3V or 220 ohm at 5V.

  3. Connect with power off

    Wire supply positive to the resistor, then the LED anode. Connect the cathode to ground.

  4. Power and check

    If it does not light, switch off and check polarity before trying again.
