A 1A fast-blow glass fuse in the common 5x20mm size, also called M205. It fits the standard 5x20mm fuse holders found in power supplies, amplifiers, test gear, 12V accessories and project boxes. The clear glass lets you see at a glance whether the wire inside is still whole, and a fast-acting fuse opens quickly on a short or overload to protect the wiring and parts behind it.

What's in the box

5+
1A 5x20mm fast-blow glass fuses

Sold per fuse with a minimum of 5. You receive the quantity you order, loose in a clear bag.

Great for

Replacing a blown 1A fast fuse in a power supply or amplifier
Fusing the 12V feed to an LED strip, fan or small pump
Protecting a bench power supply output or test lead
Inline fuse holders on car and caravan accessories
Project boxes with a panel-mount fuse holder
Keeping spares in the toolbox for 5x20mm holders

Wiring & getting started

  1. Check the size and rating

Measure the old fuse: 20mm long and 5mm across is this size. Replace like with like: the same current, the same speed (F for fast, T for slow) and a voltage rating at least as high as the circuit.

  2. Size it for a new circuit

Pick a fuse above the circuit's normal current, so this 1A fuse suits loads up to about 0.75A. If it blows every time you switch on a motor or transformer, the circuit needs a slow-blow fuse rather than a bigger fast one.

  3. Fit it in a holder

Use a 5x20mm fuse holder in the positive or active line, as close to the power source as you can. Turn the power off before changing a fuse.

  4. Checking a blown fuse

A blown fuse has a broken wire or a darkened, smoky glass. A dark glass means a hard short, so find the fault before you fit a new one.

Note: Glass fuses suit electronics and low-voltage DC work. When replacing a fuse inside mains equipment, match the original exactly; if it was a ceramic or sand-filled fuse, use the same type, not glass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Is this the same as an M205 fuse?
Yes. M205 is the usual Australian and New Zealand name for the 5x20mm size: 20mm long and 5mm across. The larger 6x30mm size (often called 3AG) will not fit a 5x20mm holder.
Fast blow or slow blow, which do I need?
When replacing a fuse, match the old one. The cap is stamped F for fast or T for time-lag (slow); these read F1AL250V, meaning fast, 1A, low breaking capacity, 250V. Fast fuses suit electronics, power supply outputs, LED lighting and other loads without a big switch-on surge. Motors, transformers and large power supplies draw a surge at switch-on and usually need a slow-blow fuse.
Can I use it on 12V or 24V DC?
Yes. 250V is the most it can safely interrupt, so it works on any lower voltage, including 5V, 12V and 24V DC. The current rating is what you choose it by.
How much current can I run through it?
It is rated 1A. For a fuse that does not blow from age or heat, keep the normal running current to about 0.75A or less. A short or a heavy overload opens it quickly.
How do I tell if the fuse has blown?
Look through the glass: a blown fuse has a broken wire, or a darkened, smoky glass after a hard short. To be sure, test it with a multimeter on continuity or ohms. A good fuse reads close to zero.
It keeps blowing. Can I fit a bigger fuse?
No. A bigger fuse removes the protection the circuit was designed with. Find the fault first. If it only blows the moment you switch on a motor or transformer, use a slow-blow fuse of the same 1A rating instead.
What holder does it fit?
Any 5x20mm fuse holder: panel-mount holders, inline holders with leads, and PCB fuse clips. Turn the power off before changing it.
Is there one that resets itself?
For low-voltage circuits up to 72V, the RXEF110 resettable PTC fuse cuts the current on a fault and works again once it cools. It reacts more slowly than this fast-blow fuse.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
