The CNC Shield V4 (HW-702) is a compact GRBL controller board for the Arduino Nano - plug your Nano straight into the onboard header sockets, no separate wiring needed for power or logic. Slot in up to 3 Pololu-style stepper drivers (A4988, DRV8825 and compatible) for X, Y and Z, wire up your motors, endstops and spindle/laser control, flash GRBL, and you're cutting.

Getting started

  1. Plug in your Arduino Nano

    Line up the Nano's pins with the board's female headers and push it home - no separate wiring for power or logic.

  2. Fit your stepper drivers

    Push A4988, DRV8825 or compatible drivers into the X, Y and Z sockets, matching the enable/direction pin orientation printed on the board.

  3. Set microstepping & motor voltage

    Fit the microstep jumpers under each driver socket, and set the Mot_V0T_Sel jumper for your motor supply voltage.

  4. Flash GRBL and wire up

    Flash GRBL to the Nano, wire motors/endstops/spindle to the headers, then power motors via the barrel jack (12-36V DC).

Does it include an Arduino Nano, stepper drivers or motors?

No - this is the bare shield only. You'll need your own Arduino Nano and A4988, DRV8825 or compatible stepper driver modules to complete the stack.

Will it work with GRBL 1.1?

Yes. It breaks out the standard GRBL pin set (X/Y/Z step-dir, endstops, CoolEN, Resume/Hold/Abort) for the Nano - as with any clone board, test each axis direction and microstep setting against your own firmware config before wiring a full machine.

Does this fit an Arduino Uno?

No - this board is built around the Arduino Nano's pin layout and the Nano plugs directly into the onboard female headers. It will not seat on an Uno. If you need an Uno-shield version of a CNC Shield V4, check with us before ordering.

What voltage should I use for motor power?

12-24V DC covers most stepper driver and motor combinations. The board accepts up to 36V, but check your specific driver and motor ratings before going above 24V.

What are the extra GND/+5V/SDA/SCL and Tx/Rx headers for?

They're a convenience breakout of the Nano's serial and I2C pins, handy for adding a display, sensor or Bluetooth/serial module alongside your CNC wiring without tapping the Nano directly.
