This ESP32 screw terminal adapter takes a 38-pin ESP32 board and brings all 38 pins out to labelled screw terminals, so sensors, relays and power leads screw down firmly instead of hanging off jumper wires. It fits 38-pin boards whose header rows are 0.9 in (22.9 mm) apart, such as our ESP32 WROOM-32 38-pin board. It does not fit our 30-pin ESP32 board, which has 15 pins a side on 1.0 in rows. The terminal blocks and sockets come soldered on, ready to use.

What's in the box

1×
ESP32 38-pin screw terminal adapter

Assembled, with both terminal blocks and all four socket strips soldered on. The ESP32 board is sold separately.

Great for

Mounting an ESP32 in a project box or control panel with M3 standoffs
Wiring relay modules, DS18B20 probes and switches with screw-down leads
ESPHome and Home Assistant builds that stay wired up for years
Swapping the ESP32 out without undoing any wiring

Wiring & getting started

  1. Check your board

Count 19 pins on each side and measure between the two header rows: about 22.9 mm fits the inner sockets.

  2. Fit it the right way round

Put the 3V3 and GND end of the ESP32 (the antenna end) at the 3V3 / GND end of the adapter, with the USB socket at the 5V / CLK end, then press it straight down.

  3. Test over USB first

Upload a sketch through the ESP32's own USB socket before wiring anything to the terminals.

  4. Wire up

Unplug USB, strip about 5 mm of insulation, tighten each wire under its labelled screw, then power up again. Leave SD0 to SD3, CMD and CLK unconnected; they belong to the ESP32's flash memory. If a label on your board differs from the adapter, follow your board's label.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Will it fit my ESP32 board?
It fits 38-pin ESP32 boards with 19 pins on each side whose two header rows are 0.9 in (about 22.9 mm) apart, such as our ESP32 WROOM-32 38-pin board. Measure between the two rows of pins on your board: 22.9 mm goes in the inner sockets. The extra outer sockets also take boards with rows 27.9 mm or 33.0 mm apart. Boards with rows 1.0 in (25.4 mm) apart do not fit.
Does it fit the 30-pin ESP32 board?
No. A 30-pin board has 15 pins a side on rows 1.0 in apart, and its pin order does not match the labels on this adapter. This adapter is for 38-pin boards only.
Is the ESP32 board included?
No, the adapter is sold on its own. Add our ESP32 WROOM-32 38-pin board if you need one.
Can I power the ESP32 through the terminals?
Yes. The 5V and 3V3 terminals connect straight to the board's 5V and 3V3 pins; the adapter itself has no regulator. Feed a steady 5V into the 5V terminal and the ESP32 board makes its own 3.3V. We suggest using either USB or the 5V terminal, not both at once.
Can I connect 5V sensors?
You can power a 5V sensor from the 5V terminal, but the ESP32 signal pins are 3.3V only. Put a level shifter or voltage divider on any 5V signal going into the board.
Which terminals should I leave unconnected?
SD0, SD1, SD2, SD3, CMD and CLK connect to the ESP32's flash memory, so leave them empty. Also keep pull-ups and LEDs off pins 0, 2, 5, 12 and 15, which the ESP32 reads at start-up.
Can I mount it in a box?
Yes. It has four corner holes of about 3.4 mm for M3 screws or standoffs, with centres about 71.8 x 57.4 mm apart. The datasheet has a dimensioned drawing.
What wire does it take?
Solid or stranded hookup wire, for example 22 to 26 AWG. Strip about 5 mm, push it fully into the entry and tighten the screw with a small flat screwdriver. Bootlace ferrules give stranded wire a neater, firmer grip.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
