The KW11-3Z is a small micro limit switch with a sprung steel lever and two terminals. It is normally open: the circuit between its two pins closes only while the lever is pressed. It suits end-of-travel stops, lid and door detection, and Arduino or ESP32 projects, and works with 3.3V and 5V controller inputs. Price is per switch. Need a normally closed contact too? The SC7301 3-pin lever switch has COM, NO and NC, and the KW11-3Z also comes as a 3-pin roller lever and a 3-pin no-lever version.

Wiring & getting started

  1. Find the pins

On the numbered face, with the lever pivot on the left, the two tabs are 1 (COM, at the pivot end) and 3 (NO, in the middle). The back face reads C and NO. Position 2 (NC) has no tab.

  2. Wire it to your board

Connect pin 1 to GND and pin 3 to a digital pin set to INPUT_PULLUP. The pin reads HIGH at rest and LOW while the lever is pressed. This works the same on 3.3V and 5V boards.

  3. Mount and test

Fix it with two M2 screws so the lever is pressed right at the end of travel, with a little over-travel. Press the lever by hand and check the input changes before letting anything move.

Note: The switch has no DC power rating, so run motors, pumps or solenoids through a relay or MOSFET module, not straight through it. Mains wiring needs an enclosure and a licensed electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Which pin is which?
On the numbered face, with the lever pivot on the left, pin 1 (at the pivot end) is COM and pin 3 (in the middle) is NO. The back face is moulded C and NO to match. Position 2 is NC, and it has no tab on this switch.
Normally open or normally closed: which do I need?
This switch is normally open only: the circuit closes while the lever is pressed. That suits most Arduino and ESP32 inputs. If your controller expects a normally closed endstop, so that a broken wire reads as triggered, choose the SC7301 3-pin lever switch, which has COM, NO and NC.
Will it work with a 3.3V board like an ESP32 or Raspberry Pi Pico?
Yes. The switch is a plain contact with no voltage of its own, so it works with 3.3V and 5V inputs. Connect pin 1 (COM) to GND and pin 3 (NO) to an input with a pull-up enabled. The input reads LOW while the lever is pressed.
How much can it switch?
The body is marked 5A at 125/250VAC, T85 (rated up to 85 C ambient). It has no DC power rating, so use it to signal a controller and switch DC motors, pumps or solenoids through a relay or MOSFET module. Mains wiring needs an enclosure and a licensed electrician.
What screws fit and how far apart are the holes?
The two mounting holes are 2.35 mm across and 9.5 mm apart, centre to centre, so M2 screws fit. Both holes sit 2.5 mm up from the terminal edge. The datasheet has a full dimensioned drawing.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
