The KW11-3Z is the mechanical limit switch behind most 3D printer and hobby CNC endstops. This is the 2-terminal version with a straight lever actuator, rated 5A at 250VAC and good for over a million mechanical cycles, so it holds up to repeated homing without drifting out of position.

Wiring & getting started

  1. Two terminals, one circuit

    This version has a single contact pair rather than the separate NO and NC contacts of the 3-pin model. Wire it like any simple switch: one terminal to the input or supply, the other to ground or the load.

  2. Check the resting state first

    Put a multimeter on continuity across the two tabs and press the lever. That tells you straight away whether your unit rests open or closed, so you can set the circuit and firmware logic to match.

  3. Use as a printer or CNC endstop

    Run the two terminals into the controller's endstop input, then set the endstop inverting option in Marlin, Klipper or GRBL to match the resting state you just measured.

  4. Low voltage signal use

    At 3.3V or 5V, take one terminal to GND and the other to a digital input with a pull-up. No special precautions are needed at logic voltages.

  5. Mains voltage wiring

    The 250VAC rating is real, but AC mains work must be carried out by a registered electrician under NZ wiring rules, using cable and terminals rated for the load.

Why is the 2-pin model discontinued?
We have moved our standard range to 3-pin SPDT limit switches, which provide both normally open and normally closed contacts. This 2-pin switch is brand new and carries our standard 12-month warranty.
Does the standard warranty apply?
Yes. This switch has the same 12-month warranty and returns treatment as our current range.
What is the difference between this and the 3-pin version?
The 3-pin KW11-3Z is SPDT: it has a common terminal plus both a normally open and a normally closed contact, so you can pick either behaviour or wire a fail-safe circuit. This 2-pin version gives you one contact pair only. For most endstop wiring that is all you need.
Can I use it as a 3D printer or CNC endstop?
Yes. The KW11-3Z is one of the most common mechanical endstops on 3D printers, hobby CNC machines and laser cutters. Wire the two terminals into the controller's endstop input and set the inverting option in Marlin, Klipper or GRBL to match.
How much can it switch?
It is marked and rated 5A at 250VAC, which covers logic level signals, DC loads and mains voltage switching within that limit. Any AC mains work must be done by a registered electrician.
