Will it carry data, not just power?
Yes, this is a data cable, so it works for programming dev boards and transferring files, not only charging.
Why does pure copper matter?
Many cheap cables use copper-clad aluminium, which has higher resistance. That shows up as slower charging and more voltage drop over the length of the cable. Pure copper conductors keep the loss down.
Will it work with my ESP32-C3 or S3 board?
Yes, provided your computer or charger has a USB-C port. If your machine only has USB-A, you want our USB-A to USB-C cable instead.
My board powers up on USB-A but stays dead on this cable
That is a board issue rather than a cable fault. A USB-C source only turns power on once it sees two 5.1k pull-down resistors on the board's CC pins, and some low-cost boards leave them off. Such a board works fine from a USB-A host but not from a USB-C charger or laptop. There is more on this in the datasheet above.
My board is not showing up as a COM port
Try a different port first. If it still does not appear, the board usually needs a USB serial driver such as CH340 or CP210x. This is a data cable, so the cable itself is not the likely cause.
Good to know: This is a standard passive USB-C cable. It is not an E-marked high-power or Thunderbolt cable, so treat it as a general charging and data lead rather than a laptop fast-charge cable. Dispatched from our Te Awamutu stock.
