A VEML7700 digital light sensor on a small breakout board. It measures light in lux, from near darkness to bright sunlight, and reports the reading over I2C. The onboard 3.3V regulator and I2C level shifter let it run from 3.3V or 5V, so it works with ESP32, Arduino and Raspberry Pi boards.

Supplied loose, ready for you to solder.
Great for
Wiring & getting started
- Fit the header
Solder the 5-pin header with the long pins under the board, so the sensor faces up when it sits in a breadboard.
- Wire it up
VIN to 3.3V or 5V, using the same voltage as your board's I2C pins. GND to GND, SDA to SDA and SCL to SCL. On an ESP32 that is usually GPIO21 (SDA) and GPIO22 (SCL); on an Uno it is A4 and A5. Leave 3Vo unconnected.
- Install the software
Arduino IDE: install the Adafruit VEML7700 Library. ESPHome: use the veml7700 sensor platform. Raspberry Pi: install adafruit-circuitpython-veml7700. An I2C scan should find the sensor at 0x10.
- Read the light level
In Arduino, readLux(VEML_LUX_AUTO) picks the gain and timing for you. For bright outdoor light, set gain 1/8 and 25 ms integration.
Note: The board is not weatherproof. Outdoors, mount it behind a clear, weatherproof cover and keep water off the pins. Any cover lowers the reading a little, so compare against a known reading if you need exact lux.
