Welcome to NZN Guides, our home for plain-English tutorials with no gatekeeping. The goal is to take you from "I have no idea what I'm doing" to "I actually built that."
Electronics can feel intimidating. There's a wall of jargon, starter kits that cost a small fortune, and forums where the answer to every question is "just read the datasheet." We reckon that's backwards. The best part of this hobby is the moment a circuit you put together actually does something, and everyone should get to feel that.
Our mission is simple: help more Kiwis pick up the tools and become their own engineer.
Why we're doing this
NZN Electronics is run by makers, for makers. We started out exactly where you might be right now: curious, on a tight budget, and not sure where to begin. Cheap, locally-stocked parts take care of the budget side. These guides take care of the rest.
No experience needed. Every guide assumes you're starting from zero. If you can follow a recipe, you can follow these.
Who these guides are for
- Total beginners who just unboxed their first board and want a quick win.
- Students and STEM learners who want to turn theory into something they can actually hold.
- Tinkerers who know the basics but need a fast wiring reference for a specific part.
What's coming
We're writing short, practical guides built around real parts: getting-started walkthroughs, wiring references, and full project builds. Each one links the exact bits you need, all in stock and shipped fast from Te Awamutu. We add new ones regularly, so check back whenever you get stuck.
Ready to build something?
