Wiring & getting started

  1. Check polarity

    The longer lead normally indicates the anode (+) and the shorter lead the cathode (-). Verify before soldering if either lead has been trimmed.

  2. Choose a resistor

    Use a current-limiting resistor in series. For initial testing, choose a value that keeps current around 5 to 10 mA.

  3. Test before installation

    Confirm polarity, light output and measured forward voltage before fitting the LED permanently.

Note: The electrical and optical values are supplier-stated for the light-green variant and have not been independently characterised by NZN. Measure the LED in your circuit and calculate the series resistor for the required current.

Why is the minimum quantity five?
These LEDs have a low individual unit value, so they are supplied with a five-unit minimum. Choose a larger quantity for volume pricing.
What resistor should I use?
Use R = (supply voltage - measured LED forward voltage) / target current. Start at about 5 to 10 mA. A 330 ohm resistor is a conservative starting point for testing from 5 V.
Which lead is positive?
The longer lead normally indicates the anode (+), while the shorter lead is the cathode (-). Verify polarity before soldering if the leads have been trimmed.
