A 1A slow-blow (time-delay) glass fuse in the common 5x20mm size, also called M205. A slow-blow fuse rides through the short surge a motor, transformer or power supply draws at switch-on, then opens on a sustained overload or short. Use it where the equipment calls for a T fuse, or where a fast fuse of the same rating keeps blowing at switch-on with no fault present. For electronics with no switch-on surge, the 1A fast-blow version opens quicker.

What's in the box

5+
1A 5x20mm slow-blow glass fuses

Sold per fuse with a minimum of 5. You receive the quantity you order, loose in a clear bag.

Great for

Replacing a blown T1A fuse in a power supply, amplifier or appliance
Fusing a small 12V motor, pump or fan that surges at start-up
The primary side of a small transformer
Project boxes with a panel-mount fuse holder
Inline fuse holders on car and caravan accessories
Keeping spares in the toolbox for 5x20mm holders

Wiring & getting started

  1. Check the size and rating

Measure the old fuse: 20mm long and 5mm across is this size. Replace like with like: the same current, the same speed (T for slow, F for fast) and a voltage rating at least as high as the circuit.

  2. Slow or fast?

Choose slow-blow for loads that surge at switch-on: motors, transformers and power supplies with big capacitors. Where the equipment specifies an F fuse, fit the fast version, because a slow fuse lets a fault run for longer.

  3. Fit it in a holder

Use a 5x20mm fuse holder in the positive or active line, as close to the power source as you can. Turn the power off before changing a fuse.

  4. Checking a blown fuse

A blown fuse has a broken wire or a darkened, smoky glass. A dark glass means a hard short, so find the fault before you fit a new one.

Note: Glass fuses suit electronics and low-voltage DC work. When replacing a fuse inside mains equipment, match the original exactly; if it was a ceramic or sand-filled fuse, use the same type, not glass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Is this the same as an M205 fuse?
Yes. M205 is the usual Australian and New Zealand name for the 5x20mm size: 20mm long and 5mm across. The larger 6x30mm size (often called 3AG) will not fit a 5x20mm holder.
Slow blow or fast blow, which do I need?
When replacing a fuse, match the old one. The letter before the current rating on the cap tells you: T means time-lag (slow blow) and F means fast. Slow-blow fuses suit motors, transformers, pumps and power supplies that draw a surge at switch-on. For electronics without a switch-on surge, or where the equipment specifies F, use our 1A fast-blow 5x20mm fuse instead.
How do I tell it apart from a fast fuse?
Look through the glass. This slow-blow fuse has a small solder bead on its wire, while a fast fuse has a plain thin wire. Keep them in separate bags so they do not get mixed up.
Can I use it on 12V or 24V DC?
Yes. 250V is the most it can safely interrupt, so it works on any lower voltage, including 5V, 12V and 24V DC. The current rating is what you choose it by.
How much current can I run through it?
It is rated 1A. For a fuse that does not blow from age or heat, keep the normal running current to about 0.75A or less. Short surges above 1A at switch-on are what the slow-blow design is for; a sustained overload or a short still opens it.
My fast fuse blows at switch-on. Will this fix it?
If the equipment is meant to take a T fuse, or the load is a motor or transformer with a switch-on surge, then yes, a 1A slow-blow fuse is the right replacement. Do not go up in current rating. If the slow-blow fuse also blows, there is a fault to find.
How do I tell if the fuse has blown?
Look through the glass: a blown fuse has a broken wire, or a darkened, smoky glass after a hard short. To be sure, test it with a multimeter on continuity or ohms. A good fuse reads close to zero.
What holder does it fit?
Any 5x20mm fuse holder: panel-mount holders, inline holders with leads, and PCB fuse clips. Turn the power off before changing it.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
