Using these capacitors
- Check the polarity
Electrolytics are polarised. The longer lead is positive (+); the shorter lead and the stripe on the can mark negative (–). Fitting one backwards can damage it.
- Match the value and voltage
Read the value and voltage printed on the can. Pick a voltage rating at or above your circuit's working voltage.
- Fit and solder
The through-hole leads suit breadboards, protoboard and PCBs. Bend to the pad pitch and solder in place.
- Store the spares
Drop the rest back into the labelled case so your values stay sorted for next time.

What does the kit include?

Are these polarised?
Yes. They are electrolytic, so polarity matters. The longer lead is positive and the stripe down the can marks negative. Fitting one the wrong way round can damage it.
What voltage rating should I use?
Pick a rating at or above your circuit's working voltage. A higher voltage rating is fine; a lower one is not. The kit covers 10V, 16V, 25V and 50V.
Are they through-hole or SMD?
Through-hole (radial), with two leads. They suit breadboards, protoboard and hand-soldered PCBs, not surface-mount work.
What is the tolerance?
±20%, which is normal for general-purpose electrolytics. That is fine for coupling, decoupling, filtering and smoothing where an exact value is not critical.
Are they good for recapping repairs?
Yes, that is a common use. The kit covers the popular low-value electrolytics found in TVs, monitors, radios, stereos and small power supplies.
