The ESP32-C3 Zero packs a full RISC-V WiFi and Bluetooth board into 23.5 x 18 mm. A single-core ESP32-C3 at up to 160MHz, 4MB of flash, 2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 5 (LE), and a USB-C port the chip drives natively so there is no driver to chase. The ESP32-C3 gives up seven of its 22 GPIO to the onboard flash, and this board breaks out every one of the fifteen that are left, which is rare in a footprint this small. The edges are castellated with plated through-holes, so you can fit the supplied headers and breadboard it today, then reflow the same board onto your own carrier later.

Good to know: Logic is 3.3V and the GPIO are not 5V tolerant, so level shift anything running at 5V. Three of the exposed pads have a second job: GPIO10 also drives the RGB LED, GPIO9 is wired to the BOOT button, and GPIO18 and GPIO19 are the USB data lines. They all still work as ordinary I/O, but the datasheet above explains what changes when you use them. Program it through the free Arduino IDE (install the Espressif esp32 board package, select ESP32C3 Dev Module and set USB CDC On Boot to Enabled), or use PlatformIO, MicroPython or ESPHome. Plug in with a USB-C data cable; if no port appears, hold BOOT, tap RESET, then release BOOT.

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

What is the Zero form factor?
A very small board with castellated edges plus plated through-holes. That means you can fit the supplied headers and use it on a breadboard, or reflow the whole board onto your own PCB like a module. At 23.5 x 18mm it is one of the smallest boards in the ESP32 family.
Are the header pins fitted?
No. Two 9-pin 2.54mm male header strips are supplied loose in the bag so you can choose straight, right-angle or low-profile, or skip them entirely and reflow the board by its castellated edges.
Does it need a driver?
No. The ESP32-C3 drives USB itself and enumerates as a native USB Serial/JTAG device, so Windows, macOS and Linux all see it with the driver already in the operating system. There is no CH340 or CP2102 on this board. Use a USB-C data cable, not a charge-only one.
How many GPIO can I actually use?
Fifteen, and all fifteen are on the pads. The ESP32-C3 has 22 GPIO but seven of them (GPIO11 through GPIO17) are permanently wired to the in-package flash on every C3 board, so 15 is the real ceiling for the chip. This board holds none of them back, which is unusual at this size.
Do any of the pins have a second job?
Three do, and it is worth knowing before you wire up. GPIO10 also feeds the RGB LED, so anything you send it will flicker the LED. GPIO9 is connected to the BOOT button, so holding it low through a reset drops the board into the bootloader instead of running your sketch. GPIO18 and GPIO19 are the USB data lines, so reusing them disconnects the USB port. All of them still work as normal I/O once you know that.
How do I drive the onboard RGB LED?
It is a single WS2812 addressable LED on GPIO10. Use the Adafruit NeoPixel or FastLED library with one pixel on pin 10. There is no plain on/off LED on this board, so a stock blink sketch will look like it is doing nothing.
How does it compare to the ESP32-C3 SuperMini and the ESP32-S3 Zero?
Same chip as the C3 SuperMini, but in the smaller castellated Zero package with more pads broken out, an RGB LED and a ceramic antenna, so pick it when size or reflow mounting matters. The S3 Zero is the step up: dual core, 2MB of PSRAM and roughly double the GPIO, for camera, display or TinyML work. This board is sized for sensor and control jobs, where a single RISC-V core is plenty.
