Fully insulated female spade crimp terminals in three wire sizes: red FDFD1.25-250 for 0.5 to 1.5 mm² wire, blue FDFD2-250 for 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and yellow FDFD5.5-250 for heavier 4 to 6 mm² cable. All three push onto a 6.3 x 0.8 mm male tab, and the sleeve covers the whole terminal, so no bare metal shows once it is fitted. Pick the colour that matches your wire. To join two red-size wires with a plug-apart joint, pair them with our red MDD1.25-250 male spade terminals.

Wiring & getting started

  1. Check the sizes with power off

The tab must be 6.3 x 0.8 mm. Smaller 4.8 mm and 2.8 mm tabs also exist and will be loose. Use red for 0.5 to 1.5 mm² conductor, blue for 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and yellow for 4 to 6 mm².

  2. Strip and crimp

Use a crimping tool with a die for insulated terminals, in the red, blue or yellow position to match the terminal. Strip to the length of the wire barrel without cutting strands, push the conductor in through the wire end, then crimp the barrel section of the sleeve.

  3. Inspect and fit

Check for loose strands or a split sleeve and give the wire a firm tug. Push the terminal straight onto the tab until it is fully seated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most.

Which colour do I need?
Match the colour to the copper size of your wire. Red suits 0.5 to 1.5 mm² conductor, blue suits 1.5 to 2.5 mm² and yellow suits 4 to 6 mm². If your wire sits on a boundary, check that the insulation fits the sleeve opening.
What tab does it fit?
All three colours fit a 6.3 x 0.8 mm male tab, also called 1/4 inch or 250 series. It is the common size on rocker switches, relays and fuse holders. They will be loose on smaller 4.8 mm or 2.8 mm tabs.
What does fully insulated mean?
The sleeve covers the receptacle as well as the crimp barrel, so once it is pushed onto a tab no bare metal is left showing.
Do I need a crimping tool?
Yes. Use a crimper with a die for insulated terminals, in the red, blue or yellow position to match the terminal. Pliers squash the sleeve and give a weak joint.
Are they waterproof?
No. The sleeve insulates but is not sealed. For engine bays, trailers or outdoor wiring, add adhesive-lined heat-shrink over the wire end.
Can I use them on 240V mains wiring?
No. Fixed mains wiring in New Zealand is prescribed electrical work for a registered electrician. These are for 12V and other low voltage work such as vehicles, trailers, boats, solar and general DC wiring.
Does a quantity of one mean one terminal?
Yes, one unit is one terminal of the colour you choose. The minimum order is 5 of a colour, with a discount at 10 and 20.

Why Buy from NZN

Useful parts, fair prices and someone local to help.

I'm Lukas, an engineering student and maker based in Te Awamutu. NZN grew out of a CNC build that dragged on for months because every missing cable, bolt or electronic part meant another overseas order. I started the shop so Kiwi makers can spend more time building and less time waiting for the next parcel.
