Wiring — 3-Pin Connector

Black wire GND (negative / ground)
Red wire +12V (positive supply)
Yellow wire Tach signal (speed feedback — optional, can be left unconnected)
This is a 3-pin fan — it does not support PWM speed control. Speed is fixed at 3,000 RPM when powered at 12V. The tach wire provides a pulse signal for fan speed monitoring only; it does not need to be connected for the fan to operate. Running at lower voltages (down to ~4V) will reduce speed and noise at the cost of airflow.

What's Included

1 × Sunon KDE1204PKV3 40×40×20mm fan with pre-attached 3-pin connector

Common Uses

Router & NAS fan replacement — Ubiquiti, MikroTik, Synology & others
3D printer hotend & electronics bay cooling
Mini-PC, SBC & embedded system enclosure cooling
Network switches & rack equipment ventilation
Industrial & medical equipment using 40mm 12V fans
Any device requiring a 40×40×20mm 12V 3-pin replacement

Common Questions

Can I control the speed with PWM?
No — this is a 3-pin fan (GND, 12V, Tach) with no PWM wire. Speed is fixed at 3,000 RPM at 12V. To reduce speed, lower the supply voltage, but note airflow and cooling performance will decrease proportionally.
Will this fit my device — how do I check?
Measure your existing fan: the body should be 40mm × 40mm × 20mm deep, with mounting holes on a 32mm square pattern. Confirm your device uses a 3-pin 12V header. The connector style is standard JST-style 3-pin.
Is this a genuine Sunon fan or a clone?
Genuine Sunon — the model number KDE1204PKV3 MS.AF.GN is a real Sunon part. Sunon is a Taiwanese manufacturer used by OEMs worldwide. The MagLev bearing provides significantly longer lifespan than ball or sleeve bearings.

Please note: 3-pin connector (GND / 12V / Tach) — no PWM speed control. Verify your device uses a 3-pin header before ordering. Genuine Sunon — not a generic clone.

Why buy from NZN

International prices. None of the international wait.

We're a small Kiwi-owned shop, and we stock the same boards and parts you'd usually order from overseas, for about the same price. The only real difference is they ship from Te Awamutu, so you get them in a few days instead of waiting weeks.

Run by Kiwis, here in Te Awamutu

We're NZ owned and operated, and every order is picked, packed and sent from our place in Te Awamutu, Waikato.

Low prices are the goal

As a maker myself, I want New Zealand to have a genuine low-price local option for electronics, not overpriced shelves or a long wait on an international parcel.

Checked, and easy to sort if it's not right

We test things before they go out, and if something's off you've got 30 day returns, a 12 month warranty and a real person in NZ to email.
