Wiring & getting started

  1. Identify the wiper

    The centre terminal is the adjustable output. The two outer terminals connect to the ends of the resistance track.

  2. Connect with power off

    Connect the outer terminals to ground and a reference supply suitable for your board's analog input. Connect the centre terminal to the analog input and use a shared ground.

  3. Test the adjustment

    Read the analog input while turning the shaft. Swap the outer connections with power off if the direction is reversed. The Quick Start includes a simple multimeter check.

  4. Check the mechanical fit

    Check the panel hole, clearance and knob fit before mounting. Secure the threaded bushing with the washer and nut, and avoid forcing the shaft past its stops.

Note: Use a suitable driver circuit for motors and LED loads; the potentiometer supplies the control signal.

What does B10K mean?
B10K identifies a nominal 10kΩ linear potentiometer. The resistance from the centre wiper to an outer terminal changes as you turn the shaft.
How many potentiometers do I receive?
Each unit purchased here contains one potentiometer, one mounting nut and one washer. A knob is not included.
How do I connect it to a microcontroller?
Connect the outer terminals to ground and a reference voltage suitable for your board's analog input. Connect the centre wiper to the analog input. Keep the wiper voltage within the board's allowed input range.
Will it fit my panel and knob?
This is the 15mm split knurled shaft version. Check the panel hole, clearance and knob fit before assembly. The supplied nut and washer secure the threaded mounting bushing.
Can it directly control a motor or LED load?
Use it as the control input to a suitable motor driver or LED dimmer circuit. The load should be handled by that circuit.
