A female spade terminal is the quick-disconnect end of a wire. Crimp it on, then push it straight onto the 6.3 mm male blade of a switch, relay, rocker, fuse holder or battery terminal, and pull it off again whenever you need to. This is the red size, which takes 0.5 to 1.5 mm² wire (22 to 16 AWG), the gauge most 12V switches, LED runs, sensors and accessory circuits use. The PVC sleeve wraps the barrel and the blade, so nothing metal is left exposed once it is pushed on. Sold loose by the piece, so you buy the exact number your job needs.

How to crimp them

  1. Strip the wire

    Take about 5 to 6 mm of insulation off the end and twist the strands together so none stray.

  2. Feed it into the barrel

    Push the bare copper into the back of the terminal until the wire insulation sits against the sleeve and no strands poke out the side.

  3. Crimp the barrel

    Squeeze it with an insulated terminal crimping tool, using the red jaw position.

  4. Push it on and tug test

    Slide the terminal onto the 6.3 mm male blade until it clicks home, then pull firmly on the wire. A good crimp will not move.

Good to know: match the terminal colour to your wire gauge for the best crimp, red being 0.5 to 1.5 mm². Check the blade on your switch or relay before ordering, since 4.8 mm and 2.8 mm blades also exist and a 6.3 mm terminal will not hold on them properly. These are insulated but not sealed, so for engine bays or anywhere exposed slip adhesive lined heat shrink over the finished crimp. Which wire sizes fit the red one?
Red is the small size: 0.5 to 1.5 mm2, which is 22 to 16 AWG. Spade terminals are colour coded by gauge, so blue covers 1.5-2.5mm2 (16-14 AWG) and yellow covers 4-6mm2 (12-10 AWG). Stranded or solid wire both crimp fine.
What size blade do these fit?
They fit a 6.3 x 0.8 mm male blade, also called 1/4 inch or 250 series. That is the most common size on rocker switches, relays, fuse holders and speaker terminals. Smaller 4.8 mm and 2.8 mm blades also exist, and a 6.3 mm terminal will be loose on those, so check your switch first.
Do I need a crimping tool?
A basic insulated terminal crimper gives by far the best result and is what these are designed for. Pliers can work in a pinch, but the crimp is much easier to pull out, so a proper crimper is worth it on anything that will see vibration.
Are these waterproof?
No. The PVC sleeve insulates the crimp but it is not sealed, so water can still track along the wire. For engine bays, trailers or anything exposed, cover the finished crimp with adhesive lined heat shrink.
Why is there a 10 piece minimum?
These are small, low cost parts, so we sell them from 10 pieces up to keep the per terminal price low and shipping worth it. Set any quantity you like above that, and the price per terminal drops automatically at 25, 50 and 100 pieces.
Can I use them on 240V mains wiring?
No. Fixed mains wiring in New Zealand is prescribed electrical work and must be done by a registered electrician using approved methods. In practice these are used for 12V and low voltage work: automotive, marine, trailers, solar, LED and general DC wiring.
