Using these diodes
- Check the band
Diodes are polarised. The painted band marks the cathode (–) end. Current flows from the plain end (anode) to the banded end.
- Pick the right type
Use a rectifier (1N4007/1N5408) for mains and power, a Schottky (1N5819/1N5822) where you want low forward drop, and 1N4148 for fast signal switching.
- Mind the ratings
Stay within the diode's voltage and current rating. When in doubt, size up to the next part in the kit.
- Fit and solder
The axial through-hole leads suit breadboards, protoboard and PCBs. Bend to the pad pitch and solder in place.

What does the kit include?

Which way round does a diode go?
Diodes are polarised. The painted band marks the cathode (negative) end. Conventional current flows from the plain anode end towards the banded cathode end. Fitting one backwards will block the current you want.
What is the difference between the rectifier and Schottky diodes?
The 1N4007, 1N5399 and 1N5408 are standard silicon rectifiers with a roughly 0.7V drop, good for high-voltage power circuits. The 1N5819 and 1N5822 are Schottky diodes with a much lower drop (around 0.3-0.4V) and fast switching, ideal for low-voltage supplies, buck/boost converters and reverse-polarity protection.
What is the 1N4148 for?
The 1N4148 is a small-signal fast switching diode (100V, 200mA). It suits logic, signal clamping, small protection tasks and general switching rather than carrying power current.
Are they through-hole or SMD?
Through-hole (axial), with two leads. They suit breadboards, protoboard and hand-soldered PCBs, not surface-mount work.
Are these good for repair work?
Yes. The kit covers the most common rectifier, Schottky and fast-recovery diodes found in power supplies, TVs, radios, appliances and hobby boards, so you have the usual replacements on hand.
